How To Connect The Sewer, Water, And Electricity At Your RV Site

Sep. 28 2022 Airstream travels By Julie

All these things fall in RV hookups. Now the question is what are RV hookups? RV hookups provide your RV with Water, electricity, and a sewer drain so that you can fully enjoy and use your RV.

  • Sometimes these hookups can also include Wi-Fi or cable TV.
  • Some campsites provide full hookups that include electricity, sewer, and water.
  • Other campsites only provide partial hookups that only include just water or maybe water and electricity.

Many of the campsites do not provide any type of RV hookups. Camping with no hookups is also called dry camping or boondocking. If you need RV hookups for camping, you can get customized Airstream trailers from our RV company. Get in touch with our Airstream dealers to get your RV.

Now we will discuss each type of these RV hookups and how to use them.

  • RV water hookup

Water is given from a spigot. You should make sure that you are drinking water from a verified dedicated hose but not from a garden hose that can also include harmful chemicals. For colder climates, you can also need a heated hose. The water from the spigot goes to your shower, toilet and sinks, etc. But you should not hook your fresh drinking water to your RV. We should also use a water filter system or water pressure regulator before allowing any type of water to enter your RV with the help of a city water connection.

  • Electric RV hookup

This is also called shore power. Electric RV hookups can either be 15, 30, or 50 amps. When you purchase the RV, maybe you just received the correct power cord for your rig but you should know what type of power you require. You need to plug the power cord into the outlet when you get to your Destination.

You should remember to power down your electronics before you plug in and shut down the power at the source.

In case your RV needs a 50 amp to power all the inside things, but electricity is only providing 30 amp, then you can manage but you will not be able to run all things at one time. You are going to need a converter for this.

  • RV sewer hookup

The sewer is the place where the wastewater from your toilet, shower, and sink will go. These go in the grey water tank from the shower and sink but in the black water tank from the toilet. Never throw any wastewater on the ground because throwing black water on the ground is not legal. This water should be dumped in the sewer or septic system. Harmful diseases and bacteria are present in the wastewater.

  • Wi-Fi

At most of RV parks, Wi-Fi is a service that is provided. But signal strength is only dependent on the place where the park is located. If an RV park has well-placed signal boosters, then the number of people can use Wi-Fi at the same time. But you cannot rely on this option if you need to do a work zoom call. Sometimes you can get better signal strength at the box office if you want to use the Wi-Fi.

  • Cable TV hookups

Cable TV is honesty that is not always provided at the full hookup site. Most long-term parks can give you permission to hard wire the cable TV to your rig. Most of them are simple plug-and-play.

If you are staying at that place for a long period then you must call the cable company to get your service hooked up. Most of the campsite companies provide mobile antenna system which is very easy to connect and use at different campsites.

All these requirements depend from person to person. Some people can survive with no TV or Wi-Fi but some of them have some sort of work commitments that they cannot do without Wi-Fi or internet. In short, before buying an Airstream, you should have enough knowledge. For that, you can talk to largest airstream dealer to take proper advice on owning RV.

Dump station

If your RV Park does not include sewer hookup at your site, then they must have a common dump station that you can use to empty your grey and black tanks. You just have to pull or drive your rig to the dump area and then empty your tanks just like if you are present at the campsite. Most of the RViers also carry a small wagon or blue boy that can fill up with grey or black water and then they carry it to the dump station. Most parks also include a Honey Wagon which comes to your RV once a week so that you can dump your tank.
